I have not had the opportunity to study abroad yet but I would like to talk about my experience with applying and preparing to study abroad in the Spring at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. The whole process was very easy and smooth. I went to my advisor, who has been and will be advising me for my four years at USC, and talked to her about schools that I can study abroad at. I gave her my preferences for location; for me it was Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Scotland, or Bristol. Upon these preferences, my advisor gave me the list of schools that would allow me to take the required courses to graduate. I ended up choosing the University of Edinburgh in Scotland for numerous reasons. It is an easy access to Europe and after asking around about the school, it would also be a Harry Potter experience. After finalizing my decision with my advisor, we discussed the course plan and the classes I would take there based on courses that have been approved at the university in the past. Then all that was left was to apply through the USC Student Travel Abroad website where I would access the application and my Study Abroad portal. The questions asked about why I want to study abroad and why I am choosing to study abroad at the University of Edinburgh. Lastly, but also very important, I needed a Viterbi faculty member, including professors, to fill out a recommendation form. Now I am waiting to hear back to see if I got accepted. If accepted, I would be abroad during the Spring 2025 semester and I am already planning how I would get around the city of Edinburgh either by train or plane, which are very cheap. It is a very safe city with great people and a deep rooted history. Overall, with the help of my advisor and multiple info sessions, USC has made the process of applying abroad simple and manageable.
