As an indie electronic music enthusiast, one of my favorite things to do when I have a free weekend is going to shows with friends! Sunset Boulevard’s Roxy Theatre, and others like El Rey Theatre and the Wiltern are some of my favorite places to see rising artists like Kumo 99, Slater, and Frost Children. There’s always something happening, whether it’s an underground gig or a massive festival. One of my favorite concert memories was seeing Kali Uchis at the Hollywood Bowl! There’s a music scene for every kind of person. Iconic events like HARD Summer and Camp Flog Gnaw were so close to the USC campus in 2023 – they were hosted at the Coliseum and Dodger stadium, respectively!

But let’s talk about the food scene. Mexican food here is unmatched. El Cholo, only 2 miles away, is my absolute favorite for authentic flavors and simply amazing enchiladas. Established in 1923, I feel like I’m really getting a true taste of history every time I eat there with my friends. Grand Central Market is a foodie’s paradise with endless options. If I’m craving Japanese food, I can take a quick train to Little Tokyo’s Daikokuya (where I had the best ramen I’ve had in my life). If I want delicious lattes, I go to Koreatown’s Cafe Mak and enjoy yummy food while studying. From street tacos around USC to gourmet dishes in DTLA’s skyscraper restaurants, the diversity in food mirrors the city’s multicultural vibe.

Choosing Viterbi isn’t just about the academics (though they’re top notch, too). Picking a college means choosing the area surrounding it as well; it’s about diving into a city that’s as diverse and dynamic as your interests. Whether you’re grooving to obscure tunes or savoring every bite of a delicious meal, LA and USC offer a backdrop for all your passions and create the perfect environment for a fulfilling college experience.
