Los Angeles has to be one of my favorite cities because it has something for everyone to enjoy. . It is always bustling with activities such as concerts, art galleries, and endless things to do. As a New York native, you can’t beat the warm, sunny LA weather. Here are some of my favorite day trips in Los Angeles with my friends over the weekend.
Versatility in Venice:
Take the metro to Venice, and visit the Artist and Flea’s market. This market happens every Sunday in Venice, with loads of vendors at affordable prices. I recently got a coat, and my friends never fail to find cute items to add to our wardrobe on a budget. Next, walk towards the Venice Canals, which is just a few blocks away, and admire the gorgeous architecture of Los Angeles homes. If you’re an art lover, you’ve got to check out the Mosaic Tile House in Venice, a gorgeous home covered in colorful tiles. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, walk to the Venice Boardwalk to grab a bite at Gjusta, a bakery most definitely worth the hype. End the night off on the beach!
Close to Home:
If you want to do something nearby but can’t dedicate the whole day, there are plenty of fun activities near campus with your friends! Head to Dulce right on campus in the village and try the blueberry matcha, a favorite among USC students. The California Science Center is within walking distance of campus and always has a cool exhibit going on. After exploring the exhibits, head outside, and you’ll see the Exposition Park Rose Garden. The Gardening Club at USC is open to everyone, and I find myself there often with my friends, debriefing our weeks and painting pots for plants. If you love sports, you must check out a basketball game at Galen Center in the winter. There are also tons of delicious food options near campus– my personal favorite is Ebaes, an Asian Fusion restaurant, just minutes away if you take USC’s free Lyft.
Magical Malibu March
If you’re a fan of nature, you must make a day trip to Malibu. Take a bus using the USC Metro Pass, or carpool with friends, and head to El Matador Beach. Here, you can observe the beautiful rocks and sea creatures by the shore. You might even spot some surfers! Take a quick break at Malibu Farm, which has delicious food options. If you’re up for a trek, go to Escondido Falls, a gorgeous waterfall hike nearby. End your trip at the Getty Villa and admire the beautiful architecture against the great California skyline.
Exploring LA can be intimidating, but USC offers tons of transportation options (free Metro UPass, shuttles, organized trips), and it never hurts to carpool with friends! Whether you’re hours away from campus, or in walking distance, you are bound to discover the rich culture of Los Angeles that I am so fortunate to call home.
