How LinkedIn became my Best Friend

As I clicked download on the App Store, little did I know this app would become my new hyperfixation. Learning occurs in your classes, but most importantly from your peers. LinkedIn allowed me to have a window into the lives of your peers. The inspiration transcends from an in person connection, to expanding your web through an online network. Not only does LinkedIn provide connections, but an ability to apply to jobs, internships, and even volunteer opportunities. It is often a joke amongst my friends that my addiction to LinkedIn has surpassed that of Instagram and even Tiktok. I argue with them, but when I open my phone to add a new connection it seems that they may be correct. Linkedin has added games to the application as well, furthering my love for the app, the epitome of professional development.

ASBME Networking Night

My entrance to the professional world was through the ASBME Networking Night that I attended my first year. Through this event I was able to network with individuals from companies from Abbot to Boston Scientific providing me with the corporate exposure that I had been lacking. This is just one example of many networking events provided by USC. Trojan Talks with companies as well as the Career Fair are examples of networking events that allow for professional exposure, starting from a student’s first semester at USC.

Trojan Connection

Beyond the formal networking events and platforms such as LinkedIn, what makes USC special is the tight knit Trojan Family. From a “Fight On!” at an airport, to receive a research internship offer due to a Trojan connection, these are both events that I experienced within just my first year at USC. Another Internship offer I received was due to a connection that I made through a club that I am a member in at USC. From the friends that you make in your Freshman Year GSEM to your roommate, the most powerful tool for networking for professional experience is the Trojan Family.
