As the academic year winds down, it’s time to start thinking about summer! For me, summer has been on my radar since last October, when I first dove into the internship application process. Over the past few months, I’ve applied to countless internships, connected with recruiters, attended networking events, and sharpened my interview skills. Although I didn’t land an offer this time around, I’m choosing to see this summer as a valuable opportunity — a chance to reset, grow in new ways, and prepare myself even better for the next recruitment cycle.

One of my big goals for this summer is to dive into a personal project I’ve been brainstorming: building out some circuit designs. I’m excited to roll up my sleeves and deepen my understanding of circuit fundamentals, while also honing my KiCAD skills. Plus, having a fully developed project to showcase on my resume has been a longtime goal, and there’s no better time to make it happen than now.

Beyond career-building, there’s a big change happening on the home front — my family is moving back to the U.S. after their time in Panama! I’m thrilled to help them get settled and to have them closer as I continue my schooling. Sure, we’ll have plenty of not-so-glamorous tasks ahead (hello, license renewals and moving endless boxes), but I know it’ll be more than worth it.

Excited to see my cats (fat one not pictured)!

I’m also hoping to reconnect with old friends and make new memories this summer. Having lived in five different states and attended twelve different schools, catching up with friends from different chapters of my life always feels incredibly special. On top of that, I’m planning my first-ever “friend trip” — a getaway to Hawaii with some of my USC friends! I can’t wait for all the adventures ahead.

While this summer might not look exactly how I originally imagined it, I’m genuinely excited for what’s in store. I’m grateful for the chance to step back from academics for a bit, focus on personal growth, and create new memories. Here’s to making the most of the months ahead — and I can’t wait to see what everyone else is up to too!
