The first time I visited USC, I remembered the school for the beauty of the campus more than anything else. However, the campus was just one of a multitude of reasons why I chose to attend USC.
1) The Appeal of USC – Tradition, Innovation, and Opportunity
The first reason I chose USC Viterbi revolves around the university as a whole and the community at USC. The Trojan family is large and USC alumni live all around the world. While at USC, I met USC alumni and students all over the US as well as in Europe, Asia, and Australia. Not only is the alumni network welcoming, the students, faculty, and other staff at USC are very supportive. Since the class size is so small for most Viterbi classes, it is easy to build relationships with professors and classmates. I have found that whenever I need help, my classmates and professors are very willing to provide help and work with my needs.
Additionally, there are many opportunities for USC students because of the close relationships you can form with professors and alumni. There are many networking opportunities and events with companies that are looking to hire USC students. There are career events and opportunities to submit your resume to top engineering companies as well as companies in other industries. Also, USC’s campus and facilities are state of the art, providing students with beautiful classrooms and study spots, and Viterbi students have access to places like the Maker’s Space, where you can design and build your own projects and use technology such as the 3D printer, among other tools.
Finally, USC’s location in Los Angeles plays a huge role in shaping the student experience. While exploring LA, I have been able to learn about many cultures and experience life in a large city off campus. Check out my blog about how I explore LA on my page!
2) The Student Experience – Life Beyond the Classroom
Life at USC isn’t just about academics—it’s about growing as a person, building connections, and making lasting memories. From day one, I’ve found that being a Trojan means being part of a larger family. I’ve had the chance to connect with students from all walks of life through clubs, events, and classes, and it’s those relationships that make USC feel so special. Through these clubs and organizations, I’ve been able to develop leadership skills, engage in community outreach, and form friendships that will last long after graduation.
In addition to the academic and professional opportunities, USC offers a range of recreational and wellness programs. From intramural sports to workout classes on campus, there’s always something to help me unwind after a long day of classes. I’ve found that staying active and engaged in these activities helps me manage the stress of being a college student, and I have met many friends through recreational sports.
3) Opportunities within Viterbi
Viterbi provides unique opportunities to students beyond what USC provides and Viterbi students are a small community within the larger USC community. Check out my blog on why I chose Viterbi and my major on my page!
USC is more than just a university to me. I chose to attend USC because of the community and opportunities that are unique to USC. My experience at USC has been invaluable and I will treasure the memories I have made forever.
