It’s that time of the year again! Universities across the country are beginning to release admission decisions to eagerly awaiting students. We know how much this moment means to student and their families. It can be exciting, nerve-wracking and emotional.
You’ve poured countless hours int your application and submitted not too long ago. The wait can feel just as tough. It’s near impossible not to dwell on the “what ifs”, when you should should be focusing on you senior year and enjoying as much of it as you can. You are not alone, everyone want to know when USC will release admission decisions and we are here to help. Applicants with complete applications will be emailed on March 26, 2025, when there is a status update in their USC Admission Portal.
We get it. We really do. This time of year is both loved and loathed by admission staff. Exciting and positive news will be released… to a very small number of people relative to the size of our applicant pool. At the same time, the majority of our applicant pool will be receiving not-so-great news.
The Fall 2025 Applicant Pool
The incoming class of 2025 was another fiercely competitive year. USC and the Viterbi School received tens of thousands of applications and while nearly everybody DESERVES to be admitted, it just isn’t possible given the size of our University, the Viterbi School, and most importantly, our classes.
While the admission numbers aren’t final yet, the number of admitted students for the USC Viterbi School of Engineering will be extremely competitive and we will see another low admission rate for Fall 2025.
Next Steps
If you are admitted:
READ THROUGH EVERYTHING we send you (including every element we put in your admission portal)! It is definitely a ton of information (not to mention our emails that will soon be coming) – but there is a lot for you to do if you are considering USC and the Viterbi School.
VISIT WITH US through one of our many admitted student events. We will be hosting 6 on-campus events (1 weekend, and 5 weekday) and dozens in cities near you through the months of March and April. Explore USC is not just a “campus tour!” It is an in-depth visit with us in the Viterbi School; you will meet faculty, see facilities, spend time with current students, and so much more.
We will send you some more information on the details. The events will also be posted with registration info in your Admission Portal.
If you are not admitted:
Take a moment… breathe. It’s going to be okay. We understand this may not be the result you were hoping for. But the letter in your admission portal includes all the information you need. Read through all of the “Frequently Asked Questions” as they typically address all of your questions, including the detailed instructions on how to appeal the decision if you wish to do so.
While we may not be able to offer you a spot in this year’s first-year class, the door to USC Viterbi is not closed entirely. If you are interested in learning more about the Transfer Admission process, we are happy to help you. Once you have chosen a community college or university to attend this year, we can advise you on the best plan to be a strong transfer applicant next year. We are happy to work with you through Transfer Information Sessions beginning in April.
I hope this helps clarify where we are at in this process. We feel a great sense of gratitude to all our applicants for the time and effort you’ve expended to complete and submit your applications. It’s been a privilege to get to know you through your applications and through our various events you have attended.
Fight On!
