A little less than a year ago, I wrote about why choosing USC was a no-brainer for me. Now, with almost four semesters under my belt as a Trojan, I can confidently say that my initial instincts were right. USC has lived up to—and in many ways, exceeded—my expectations. While my original reasons for choosing USC still hold, my experiences have deepened my appreciation for what makes this university so special.
Resources: More Than Just Support—They Open Doors
I knew USC had incredible resources, but I didn’t fully grasp how accessible and impactful they would be until I started using them. From networking events to research opportunities through CURVE, the university has given me tools to shape my academic and professional journey. One of the most valuable experiences so far has been working with professors who genuinely care about their students’ growth. I never imagined that the same professors who once taught me in class would later become my mentors as I worked under them as a lab assistant. Stepping into this role has deepened my understanding of the subject, given me a new perspective on education, and reinforced my passion for my field. Whether it’s through these hands-on experiences, securing an internship, or simply getting advice on life after graduation, the support at USC continues to remind me that I’m never alone in this process.
Community: Finding My People
When I first arrived, I knew USC had a strong sense of community, but I didn’t realize how much it would define my college experience. Joining clubs like the Rocket Propulsion Lab (RPL) and the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) have introduced me to some of the most driven and passionate people I’ve ever met. These aren’t just classmates or teammates—they’re friends who push me to be better every day. The Trojan Family isn’t just a phrase; it’s a reality I experience constantly, whether through late-night study sessions, Boba Time trips, or simple conversations in the dining hall.
Stepping into college, I worried about how easy it would be to find my place. But at USC, that process felt natural. The connections I’ve made—both academically and socially—have created a sense of belonging that I wouldn’t trade for anything.
Location: More Than Just Sunny Skies
I always appreciated USC’s location, but over time, I’ve realized it’s more than just good weather and beautiful scenery. Being in the heart of Los Angeles has opened doors I never expected—from networking with industry professionals to spontaneous weekend trips that break up the academic grind. The proximity to major tech hubs, entertainment powerhouses, and innovative startups makes it an ideal place to grow both personally and professionally.
USC’s location is more than a pretty picture—it’s an extension of the learning experience. Whether it’s attending a guest lecture from a leading industry expert or collaborating with students from different disciplines, the opportunities here feel limitless.
Looking Ahead
Reflecting on my initial reasons for choosing USC, I can say with confidence that they weren’t just hopes—they’ve become my reality. The resources, the community, and the location are still major reasons why I love this school, but now, they mean even more to me.
As I continue my journey at USC, I know that this is just the beginning. There’s still so much to explore, learn, and experience. And no matter what comes next, I know that being a Trojan will always be a part of who I am.
Fight on!
