It’s finally summer… mostly 🙇♀️ I’m still knee-deep in finals (1 down, 3 to go), but I thought I’d take a study break and share my plans for this summer!
My biggest involvement this summer will be a Construction Management Internship at Jacobs, an international design firm, in Irvine, CA. I will be assisting with two different projects, gaining a lot of hands-on experience, and getting to know my co-interns!
I got interested in construction after taking CE-469: Sustainable Design and Construction, which is a Civil & Environmental Engineering elective at USC. In this class, we learned how to make projects more sustainable throughout all phases, from design to post-construction. I am excited to apply what I’ve learned (and learn even more) this summer!
I’m also planning to continue working on my research project. I am a CURVE Research Fellow in the Social Interactive Autonomous Systems (SIAS) Lab, which focuses on intelligent, autonomous agents (think Waymos or Teslas). If you’re interested in learning more about the CURVE Fellowship program, we have a podcast about it! My research focuses on autonomous vehicle modeling, and I want to make more progress this summer so I can begin submitting my research to publications and conferences. So maybe you’ll catch me at a conference near you 👀
Speaking of conferences, I also plan to spend part of the summer preparing for the Society of Women Engineers WE26 National Conference in Boston, MA. Since joining the e-board for USC’s Society of Women Engineers, I’ve gotten more involved in the behind-the-scenes planning and budgeting that helps our chapter send 16+ students to the conference every year! I’m also excited to meet with my committee, Advocacy & Wellness, this summer to plan more exciting events for the upcoming year.
A session from last year’s conference, WE25, which was in New Orleans, LA!
I got my summer internship at last year’s conference, so I’m excited to attend again in November and even more excited to help prepare for it! I may be studying engineering, but I’m definitely a planner at heart 🫶
Outside of career & work stuff, I want to spend this summer focusing on fitness and my friends/family! I love yoga and plan to practice much more this summer, and I can’t wait to hang out with my friends who are staying in SoCal. I’m also planning trips to Berkeley, Portland, and Seattle! It might be a busy summer, but I can’t wait to get started (and hopefully blog about it too).
