Is It Worth Visiting USC Viterbi in the Summer?

I can wholeheartedly say, the answer is Yes!  Summer visits offer a quieter, more focused way to explore campus, even when fewer students are present.

In our summer Visit Viterbi Experiences, high school students exploring engineering often get answers to the following:

  • What types of experiences will I have as an engineering student at USC Viterbi?
  • How do I know if  USC Viterbi is right for me?
  • What is it like to study engineering at USC?

As an admission counselor, I can try to answer these questions for you, but time and time again, the best way to answer them is simple: see it for yourself.

Bottom line:  The Visit Viterbi Experience at USC gives students and families a focused introduction to engineering-programs, spaces,   and the path to get there.   Continue reading for tips on how to make the most of your summer visit, or

Why Campus Visits Matter for Future Engineers

Choosing an engineering school is about more than rankings or majors. It is also about understanding how you’ll learn, what you’ll build, and which environment is the right fit for you.

A campus visit gives you the chance to:

  1. See the places where you will build, study, and collaborate
  2. Experience the energy of the campus community
  3.  Begin picturing yourself as an engineering student

Bottom line:  A campus visit is your chance to evaluate fit firsthand- like a “test drive” for your college experience.

How to Make the Most of a Summer Visit

Even without students present, you can make your visit meaningful:

  • Come with a few questions (What do students build? What is the workload like?)
  • Focus on the spaces—labs and makerspaces tell the real story
  • Imagine yourself there during the school year
  • Take notes to compare later

Small details—like where students work and create—matter most.
