As an honors student, I had the opportunity to live in McCarthy Honors College during my freshman year, and now, as a sophomore, I’m living in Cowlings and Ilium. My experiences at both residential colleges in the USC Village have been incredible!

First off, living next to Target and Trader Joe’s is a total game-changer. Whether I need groceries, school supplies, or a last-minute snack, I can run downstairs and be back within minutes. It’s seriously convenient to know that I can grab whatever I need at any time without planning out a full shopping trip. The suite-style living is another huge perk—I love having my own space and privacy, especially since I prefer quieter, more relaxed environments. But, when I’m in the mood to socialize, the lounges are the perfect spot to hang out or study. Plus, the courtyards offer a refreshing change of scenery when I want to study outside or just get some fresh air.

The best part, though, has to be the events hosted by the resident assistants. Whether it’s stress-relief activities during finals, fun holiday-themed get-togethers like “Flowers and Food” at McCarthy, or community bonding over snacks and crafts, there’s always something going on. I’m especially excited for upcoming trips this year, like apple picking and possibly even Catalina Island with Ilium! Tuesdays Tea is another highlight—it’s an awesome chance to connect with USC alumni, faculty, or even local business owners in an intimate Q&A setting. I had the opportunity to meet the owner of Dulce and Yoboseyo, which was so cool!

On top of that, having access to the dining hall and meal plan is a blessing. Not having to think about cooking is a huge relief, and the themed dining hall events, like midnight breakfast during finals or special holiday meals, add a fun twist to the usual routine.

Overall, I am grateful for the opportunity to live so close to campus and be a part of such a vibrant community. The convenient amenities, strong sense of belonging, and countless memorable experiences have made residential life an unforgettable part of my USC journey. I highly recommend it!
