It is a warm fall day, the beginning of October. Leaves are still green, the sun is still shining, but there is a darkness upon us… midterms. Midterm season is quite a misleading name. These exams do not happen in the middle of the term, nor is it just a season. Midterms start anywhere from the third week of the semester and can end as late as two weeks before finals begin. October just happens to be the thick of it. Good thing it is spooky season so we do have something scaring us the whole month.

Lucky for us, a sweet thing called fall break exists. In mid-October, the school gives us a Thursday and Friday off to take a breather from school. This break is the only thing that keeps me afloat until finals. It is now the Monday after fall break and I am having the post-break blues.

I went to New York over the weekend to visit a friend who goes to Barnard. The leaves were changing color, the air was crisp and cold, and there was a pumpkin on every corner. I spent part of my time spending money in restaurants and the other part continuing with recruiting season. Did I mention that fall semester is also peak recruiting season? It was a good glimpse into real world living. My fall break in New York was definitely much needed. I do know some people choose to go to Las Vegas, Mexico, back home, or simply cozy up in their room and refuse to leave until Monday.

Even though I will mourn those two extra days of no class, I now feel refreshed and ready to finish off the semester strong. I mean there isn’t much left now. It is two weekends until Halloween, then it is basically Thanksgiving, come back for two weeks and the semester is over. Easy, breezy.
