Every weekend I make it a point to venture off campus at least once. Whether that be in the Shryft zone, group trip to Beverly, or out-of-LA travel really depends on my work load. While the enticing two streets of red brick are definitely hard to leave, I treasure weekends as an opportunity to reconnect with nature and reality.

Here are some of my favorite places to be in LA:

1. Culver City theater: One of the only nearby theaters that has showings of newly released Bollywood movies. Make sure to take a 10-15 minute walk to the nearby BJ’s for a pizookie!

2. Santa Monica Beach: A classic, but we all need those one day, solo or group, energy recovery and rejuvenation days. how convenient it is for a solo or group one-day rejuvenation. Also, it is just a 40 minute ride there on the metro E-line.

3. Irvine: You can often find me in one of the LA suburbs like Irvine indulging in the Indian Classical dance and music scene!

4. Glendale: There is an amazing Cuban pastry shop called Porto’s Bakery and Cafe. While most of the clubs doing fundraising on campus bring in treats from here, we love taking a 2-3 hour round trip to Glendale and indulging in some scrumptious guava strudels.

5. Rodeo Drive: Right next to UCLA (I know), but an amazing place to go window shopping at least. Oh, don’t forget to ask for some free ribbon to wear in your hair when you go into Gucci.

6. TV show tapings: There are tons of free and low-priced TV show tapings in Pasadena or Culver City. I had the opportunity to attend a taping of America’s Got Talent live last March with friends!

7. Hikes: Whether it be a small Griffith trail with friends or a peaks and professors half-day adventure to Colby Canyon, the sunny LA weather is perfect for any outdoor activity.
