In the vast landscape of collegiate pride and tradition, each university boasts its own unique rallying cries, chants, and mottos. “Roll Tide,” “Go Huskies,” “Bleed Crimson.” These are familiar chants, each proudly representing a school’s colors, mascot, or name. However, the motto that fills me with pride is only one and that is, “Fight On”. Unlike the others, this motto transcends sports and speaks to the essence of life itself beyond colors, and mascots and ultimately is what made me sign my letter in one of the most monumental decisions of my life.
I take great pride in being a Trojan because of our ability to “Fight On” which symbolizes resilience and determination. It’s more than just attending a college; it’s about being part of a community that inspires us to persevere through life’s challenges. This unique bond empowers us to conquer even the toughest situations, whether it’s enduring an 8 AM physics lab in Kaprielian Hall or supporting a family member battling illness. In those moments, “Fight On” serves as my guiding light, reminding me to press forward, something that being a Trojan fuels me with.
Trojan Family
As a proud Trojan, I’ve come to understand that being part of the USC community is more than just a four-year journey; it’s a lifelong commitment to perseverance, excellence, and making a positive impact on the world around us. The spirit of “Fight On” permeates every aspect of our lives, transcending the boundaries of sports and academics to become a guiding principle that shapes our character and defines our legacy. The connections transcend campus, to gas stations in my local community where I will receive a “Fight On” to an opportunity to conduct research at a Research University over the summer due to a USC connection.
Being a Trojan means going beyond personal growth; it means uplifting those around us. Whether it’s advocating for healthcare equity through California Healthcare Outreach or serving as a member of Engineering Without Borders to ensure equal access to facilities for students in Malawi, I am driven to make a positive impact. Trojans have a history of changing the world, from Neil Armstrong’s historic steps on the moon to Keck graduates leading COVID research during the pandemic. USC alumni have left an indelible mark on society, inspiring us to carry on their legacy and continue pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.
In essence, being a Trojan means embracing the values of resilience, determination, and service that define our alma mater. It’s about embodying the spirit of “Fight On” in everything we do, from conquering academic challenges to championing social justice causes. It’s about fostering a sense of belonging and camaraderie within our community, and leveraging our collective talents and resources to effect positive change in the world. And above all, it’s about upholding the proud legacy of USC and leaving a lasting impact that extends far beyond our years on campus. So, why USC? Because here, we don’t just cheer; we fight on as one Trojan Family.
