If you’ve ever been on any college tour, you know you’ll always hear about the campus culture, vibes, organizations, and so much more. In my experience, it always boiled down to the school leaning more towards either the academic side or the “party school” side. Ultimately, your choice of college will come at a sacrifice of one for the other: which will you choose?

Taking a page out of Iron Man’s book, USC asks if it’s too much to ask for both – and no, it isn’t.

The Trojans have produced a campus that simultaneously ranks #1 for quality of life and computer science for video game development. USC has won 112 NCAA titles, the 3rd highest in the nation and over double the number of #4. It seems impossible for a school to be so focused on academically rigorous disciplines while simultaneously having some of the biggest pregame parties for their historically dominant football team – but USC does.

When it came time for me to pick a school, it was honestly a no-brainer. As a computer science major, I’ve always prioritized a solid education above all else for my undergrad, and USC goes above and beyond when it comes to that. Even as a freshman, I’ve already had some of the best professors a college student could ask for. I’ve been able to join clubs about all sorts of things, from making a tech startup in LavaLab to building projects in quantitative finance in QuantSC. There’s so many resources when it comes to help with classes, projects, internships, interviews, and just about anything a student could need to succeed both in and out of the classroom.

When it’s time to relax or go out, USC has you covered too. As a start, the campus is located in the heart of Los Angeles, so there’s no shortage of things to do or places to see. If you’re a sports fan, you can watch the best collegiate players play their games in some of the most beautiful fields and courts in the world, the Coliseum and Galen Center. And if you’re into playing sports too, there’s a team for just about any organized athletic event on campus, from intramurals to clubs and even opportunities for walking on to NCAA teams. I joined the lacrosse team, a D1 team that competes in the MCLA – and it’s been nothing short of a phenomenal experience. I’ve met some amazing people with even crazier skills, taken team trips to play games in Texas and Arizona, and so much more – all the while balancing it with a computer science degree.

At the end of the day, USC truly has it all. I’ve met people from all around the world, gone to some of the most fun sporting and social events in my life, and been fully immersed in my degree in classes and internships. I honestly cannot think of anything else to ask for out of my undergraduate experience, and I’ve been here for less than a year.

In a word, you can’t go wrong with calling USC your home for the next 4 years – no matter what.

I'm studying Computer Science and I'm from Glendale, CA, graduating with the class of 2027. I'm really enjoying all aspects of my engineering education, from the classes to the amazing clubs I've joined like LavaLab, QuantSC, and more. I've cofounded and am currently working on a booming social media management startup, Fleet, with a fellow Trojan, and it's truly been an amazing experience as both a software engineer and cofounder. Outside of CS, I'm on the USC Lacrosse team as a faceoff specialist, I'm an avid wrestler, and I love dogs.
