When deciding where to attend college, I wanted a place that would challenge me academically, fuel my curiosity, and surround me with a community of driven, passionate individuals. I also wanted a college experience in a big city, a strong sense of school spirit, and the freedom to do things beyond engineering. USC stood out not just for its reputation as a top-tier research institution but for the way it fosters innovation, collaboration, and personal growth. Now, as a student here, I can confidently say that USC has exceeded my expectations in every way.
From the moment I stepped onto campus, I was welcomed into a culture of ambition and support. As a mechanical engineering major with a minor in applied analytics, I’ve had the opportunity to dive into hands-on projects that push the boundaries of what I thought I could achieve. Through my research at the Center for Advanced Manufacturing, I’ve worked on cutting-edge tumor analysis techniques, applying my engineering background in unexpected and meaningful ways. At the same time, as a member of Makers, a hardware club here on campus, I’ve helped develop the “Magic Mirror,” an interactive smart mirror that integrates CAD design, OpenCV, and real-time hardware implementation. These experiences have reinforced my love for engineering and shown me how much I can accomplish with the right support.
Beyond academics, USC has allowed me to develop as a leader. Through my involvement with the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) and my role as an ambassador for Viterbi, I’ve found a robust network of peers and mentors who inspire and uplift me daily. Whether I’m organizing events to support women in STEM or recording a podcast to highlight student experiences, I feel empowered to make a difference.
However, what truly sets USC apart is its spirit of collaboration and possibility. In my time here, I’ve had interviews with SpaceX, Apple, Raytheon, and Medtronic, explored fields from robotics to consulting, and built connections that will last a lifetime. The Trojan Family is real; it’s a network of people who want to see you succeed and open doors you never knew existed.
USC is a place where you don’t have to choose between academic excellence and personal growth. It’s a place where students are encouraged to dream big and given the resources to turn those dreams into reality. USC is the place to be if you’re looking for a university that will push you, support you, and prepare you for whatever comes next. I know it was the right choice for me, and it might be the right choice for you, too.
