My favorite part of LA is about 20 miles southwest of USC’s campus, and it’s honestly my home away from home: Hermosa Beach! While there are so many options for beach excursions in LA, Hermosa Beach is by far the best. These are all my favorite things about Hermosa Beach.

Favorite Food/Restaurant: all-you-can-eat Taco Tuesday at American Junkie right there on Pier Avenue! I absolutely love filling up my plate with as many tacos with spicy salsa as possible, naturally with some crisp Dr. Pepper. Especially when it’s warm and I can sit outside on the patio, or when there’s an NFL game playing on one of the many TVs (and if I get lucky, a Broncos game!). I always look forward to spending time at American Junkie on any Tuesday I’m in Hermosa.

Favorite Dessert: Ice cream at the Baked Bear! Nothing beats a good scoop of ice cream, and the Baked Bear does it best. I highly recommend getting their cookies and cream ice cream with two warm cookies and cream cookies in between. You can never have too much cookies and cream, in my opinion! Especially after dinner, whether casual at Paisanos Pizza, or more formal at Fritto Misto, the Baked Bear is the perfect way to top off an amazing night in Hermosa.

Favorite Activity: Playing beach volleyball right on the beach by the Pier! I’ve made so many memories playing in and winning multiple tournaments in Hermosa with some of my favorite people and teammates over the years, and it always feels so comforting knowing I got to play in my favorite place. Especially after a hot day, I love running into the ocean with my teammates for a much deserved cool-off!

Favorite Store: Roxy on the Pier! This store is filled with so many cute outfits and accessories that fit my personality exactly. Whenever I’m in Hermosa, I always must stop by and browse around. Sometimes, I do end up spending a bit too much money though. My favorite pair of Rainbows are even from this store!

Favorite Time of Day: Sunset! I can’t think of a more beautiful and enticing sight than the sun setting over the Pacific. When the sun sets on the water, I feel like my eyes can’t look away from the beauty and complete stillness that results. I could watch Hermosa’s sunset for days on end, and it’s truly a blissful experience.

LA is full of so many amazing and diverse people, events, and places, but Hermosa Beach is the one that has my heart. Every memory with my dad after a long day of volleyball or every picture taken and laugh shared with my teammates, has shaped me into who I am. I strongly encourage everyone to experience this beautiful and happy place. If you do go, look for me, I’ll be the one eating tacos and ice cream while playing volleyball!
