The thought of getting a summer internship can be daunting. I’m currently a junior and have yet to have any sort of internship over the summer, so the past few months have been a bit stressful. However, through various resources and clubs at USC I’ve been able to get a lot of help to help ease the process a bit.
My favorite way to learn about companies I’d be interested in interning for is through career events through clubs I’m involved in. I am currently on the E-board for the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists (AAEES), and we’ve had a lot of events getting to hear from employers at a variety of different companies and consulting firms. It’s such a great way to hear about different companies and the different experiences and opportunities they offer. If it weren’t for this club, I would have never heard of so many places that I’m going to apply to internships for!
I’ve also been able to get a lot of help with resume review through USC and my clubs. We had a resume review night at AAEES where we had some people from the career center come in and help us review our resumes, and it was super helpful and I got a lot of great advice. Another great resource I’ve used is virtual drop in hours through the career center, where an advisor read over my resume and gave me lots of great advice. I finally feel confident in submitting my resume to employers!
I’m currently in the process of compiling a list of internships to apply to, and having these resources have made the process go much easier than expected. Knowing different companies from my club helped guide me to finding applications, and through ConnectSC I’ve been able to find even more. Fingers crossed the search works out in the next few months!
