Did you know that USC offers discounted and free tickets to some of Los Angeles’ attractions and entertainment? One of them is the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles. All USC students get free admission to the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles!

It was only a 10-15 minute walk from the USC Village, so my close friend from USC, my high school friend, and I decided to check out the museum. To my surprise, the museum had a variety of exhibitions and collections.

The dinosaur hall exhibition was where we witnessed all kinds of dinosaur fossils. Another exhibition was filled with bugs and insects of L.A., so we saw close-up pictures and real-life bugs and insects found in L.A. The African and North American Diorama Halls displayed life-size animal figures accompanied by a picturesque backdrop of their natural environment. During my visit, there was a special exhibition showcasing gems and minerals. This exhibition was my favorite as I appreciated the beautiful variety of gems and minerals displayed in the museum. My favorite gem is Opal, known as the “October birthstone,” which is also my birthday month. Below is a picture of the Opal gem during my visit to the museum.

I recommend anyone visit the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles because 1) It is very near USC, within walkable distance, 2) For USC students, tickets are free! 3) A variety of interesting exhibitions and collections worth checking out!
