During week two, I got COVID-19. Like the responsible student I am, I utilized the USC COVID-19 Accommodations and was quarantined for two weeks in a hotel room. Here is what happened: after feeling extremely exhausted and ill, I decided to test for COVID-19. Less than 12 hours later, I tested positive for COVID-19 and I immediately contacted the school. They allowed me to stay in a hotel and paid for my meals to prevent unnecessary exposure to my friends, peers, and professors. In the hotel, I order food like soon tofu, poke, pad see ew, seared salmon, and more! After the full quarantine period (10 days), I left the hotel to rejoin campus life.

While this year got off to a rocky start with COVID-19, the last few weeks have been a blast! All the activities make me extremely excited for the upcoming school year and I can’t wait to get started!

It was like my school year re-started. I started a new research internship at the Ellison Institute for Transformative Medicine with the AI Team! When I wasn’t running back and forth between the Ellison Institute and USC, I resumed recruitment for my main campus involvement, CAIS++, the student branch of the Center for Artificial Intelligence in Society! I’m pleased to announce that after multiple rounds of interviews, we finally finalized our new cohort and I’m super excited to welcome our 30 new members into our club.

Of course, in between all of that, I finalized USC’s entry for ProjectX, a machine learning collegiate research competition hosted by the University of Toronto! Not to mention, even with all of this happening, I still managed to find some time to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival with my friends. We decided to make dumplings and eat mooncakes.
