When you first come to college, the plethora of food options can be rather overwhelming. Especially if you are an indecisive person like me, it can be intimidating figuring out what you are looking for at the moment. But as a senior I can say I have become well versed in the culinary possibilities around USC and thought I’d share some of my favorite spots:
Hits the Spot: Thai by Trio
Thai by Trio is a Thai restaurant northeast of campus. I’m partial because I love Thai food, but this is one of my favorite restaurants near USC. I particularly enjoy the Pad Thai with chicken and the Tom Kah soup, but there are so many different and affordable food options present! I usually do take out, but they also have a great seating space for going out!
Best with Friends: Rock & Reilly’s
Rock n Reilly’s is an Irish pub-style bar in the USC village. It has a great bar and indoor space, as well as outdoor seating. The food exceeded my expectations, with my usual order being the truffle fries and the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich. It is usually pretty busy and a great spot to meet with friends and enjoy the late afternoon happy hour!
Best Bang for your Buck: Cava
Cava is a Mediterranean fast food chain located in the USC village. It is where I go when I am usually starving and need a big meal. The build-your-own bowls they make are a large portion and for a great price and are very popular among USC students.
Best Coffee: Café Annenberg
While there are several Starbucks in and around USC, I enjoy branching out to the unique cafes USC has to offer. My personal favorite is the Café Annenberg, located right behind the Annenberg Building (School for Communication and Journalism). They have many interesting options worth trying, such as a Dark Chocolate Orange Cappuccino (yum!). With my preference for iced coffee, my usual order is the Vanilla Latte which always powers me through my day. They also have a wide range of food options, such as paninis and even gelato!
Hidden Treasure: Law School Café
Now this is one you need to keep between you and me. The Law School Café is a small café located in the basement of the USC Gould School of Law building. It is rather hidden and I only learned when another friend took me, praising the Salmon Bowls they served there. Once I tried one I was hooked, and I have walked across campus just to have one for lunch. They serve a great Vanilla Latte as well!
Date Night: Bacari W. Adams
Bacari W. Adams has an ambiance that makes it a great night out spot directly north of campus. The food is on the pricier side, but their method of serving smaller dishes is great for eating family style. Not to mention the food is fantastic, I particularly love their Chicken Sliders and Bacari Fries. Overall, it’s a great spot if you’re willing to spend more and you and your friends are looking to have a nicer night out.
While these are some of my personal favorites, food is ultimately a unique experience for every person. Luckily there are so many options on and around USC campus that everyone can try out different places and determine their go-to spots!
