One of the absolute best things about being a USC student is the free Metro TAP pass. I didn’t realize how big a deal it was…until I used it to take an entire day trip to Downtown LA without spending a dollar.
Taking the E Line from the station right outside USC takes you straight into the middle of Downtown Los Angeles, and from there, everything is walkable.

I started my day with the Angels Flight Railway, featured in the film La La Land. Technically, it costs 75 cents to ride it, but it was still cool to see it go up and down. Being there just felt like I was in a tiny old movie set.
Right near it is the Bradbury Building, which looked so cool in person. The architecture was insane. Of course, I had to stop at The Last Bookstore, which is basically a maze of books, art, and random corners that make you feel like you’re living in Harry Potter.
I wrapped up my day at Grand Central Market, where even if you’re not buying anything, the energy alone is worth it. It smells of every type of food, people bustling around, cool neon signs, the whole package.
The best part of this day trip was that it was completely free! The Metro took me there and back, and LA did the rest.
