The Associated Students of Biomedical Engineering (ASBME) is a student-run organization focused on serving the biomedical engineering community at USC by designing a comprehensive calendar including social, academic, outreach, mentoring, and professional events. One of our flagship events is Corporate Dinner, which is an opportunity for students to network with representatives from the biomedical industry. In a typical year, we host this event at the USC Hotel across the street from campus. The hotel has a lovely ballroom, and they serve guests a delicious three-course meal. Students sit at round tables with a couple company representatives per table. At the end of the dinner, students are free to roam around and talk to the representatives one-on-one, often handing over their resumes and exchanging contact information.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, this year’s event is over Zoom. We are utilizing breakout rooms to place students in smaller groups with industry representatives. Companies that will be in attendance are Abbott, Applied Medical, Biotronik, Boston Scientific, Edwards Lifesciences, GE Healthcare, Gilead Sciences, Integrated Medical Sensors, Medtronic, NuVasive, and PercuSense. All of the companies are looking for students for internships, co-ops, and/or full-time jobs. At the end of the event, students will have the chance to talk one-on-one with representatives in different Zoom rooms. Students will be submitting their resume to a folder that all the representatives have access to, and we are hoping that students will still be able to build their professional network and get their foot in the door before the Viterbi Career Fair.
