I feel like the desk space of every college student is unique and a good indicator of who they are, and I am no exception to this. I feel as though I spend the latter half of my day glued to this desk.  I mostly use it to do work, but it’s also where I watch tv, or play video games, or catch up with my dad on the phone. It is an important space for me, so therefore I try to keep it as neat as possible, otherwise it can exacerbate stress when I am having a busy week. Also with my major, I need to use several modeling softwares that require pretty hefty CPU power. That is why my desktop setup features a large monitor for visibility and the power necessary to run these programs.

I was able to create a dual monitor set-up with my laptop so I multitask and view multiple documents at once. This was a skill I picked up from a previous internship that saves the hassle of constantly switching between tabs. I’m also a big fan of watching tv while working, and this dual organization allows me to. I also raise both my monitor and laptop on an elevated surface so I am not constantly staring down and creating back problems for myself. And speaking of back problems, my set-up would not be complete with my super comfortable gaming chair. I recommend anyone who knows they will be sitting at their desk for abundant periods of time invest in a comfortable chair.

I decided to grab a smaller personal coffee machine and I don’t regret it one bit! That morning coffee really wakes up to take on the rest of the day. And to illuminate my space, I have my lights to the left. I have them oscillate between calming colors: white and shades of blue. Overall, while these seem like aesthetic decisions, they are really careful choices I have made to produce a space I feel comfortable in. And when I’m comfortable I can produce my best work. However some people never work at their desks, and prefer grassy lawns or libraries. So it is important to craft your space for yourself and to make yourself feel the best.
