I refuse to believe that it has been a year since classes went virtual! I hope everyone has fully adjusted to this new learning environment. One huge perk of virtual classes is working from home, or working from anywhere with an internet connection. Last week, I worked from the back of a campervan while road tripping up the California coast. Lucky for me, the van itself had a wifi connection.
All in all, a friend and I drove from Los Angeles to Big Sur in Northern California over four days. During the day, we spent time driving to our next destination. From there, we would take time for class or go outside to explore. Some of my favorites were walking around downtown San Luis Obispo and hiking through lilies right off the iconic Pacific Coast Highway. At night, we parked the van at various campgrounds along the coast. I really enjoyed Sunset State Beach Campground because our campsite was only steps away from the beach.
I found that it was easiest to plan the trip around days with fewer classes such as Fridays or Mondays. On the road, it worked best to find an open spot to actually stop and log onto Zoom for class. As with everything else engineering, it is always smart to plan ahead and stay on top of your work – especially when it comes to taking off in a van. If you’re thinking about traveling this way, I’d say do it!
