Just like that, I completed my freshman year! Last school year was a whirlwind of growth, new experiences, and emotions both good and bad. Attending USC this past year I made it a goal of mine to make the most of my summer plans and goals whether that’d be going on vacation, summer classes, or working an internship. Thankfully I was able to make the most of the summer after my first year and get all this done!

One of the biggest highlights for me this summer was working as an intern at Deloitte in my city, the best city in the world, Chicago! For five weeks, I was brought into the world of consulting and cybersecurity learning from professionals and getting insight into real-world projects. This experience to say the least was very enriching and I learned so much. I was also able to make the most of this in-person internship by going to the office Downtown every day where I made some valuable connections and built true friendships. Experiencing work life outside of being a college student is such a contrast to life because you realize the differences in time management, and the balance between your free time during the day.

In addition to interning this summer, I also took the leap of faith to participate in a summer course. Calculus 2… yes I know, quite daunting but I was able to make it out alive. In the end, I was able to enjoy my summer course and make a group relationship with my professor who was always open arms and willing to help. Taking this summer class was not easy, but I will attest to it allowing me to keep up my academic momentum, and ensuring my math skills stayed up to par.

While I wasnt working full-time or studying, I made sure to enjoy every bit of sunny Chicago summer with friends and family. As you may or may not know, Chicago being the best city in the world has the most beautiful skyline full of alluring lights in the evening sky. I often would drive down Lake Shore Drive under these lights blasting music with friends. Summertime Chi is full of great food, exciting festivals, beachy days, and so much more.

As much as I loved my summer break, the upcoming school year was always at the back of my mind. There was a mix of excitement and nerves as I looked forward to continuing my journey at USC. The stress of academics, balancing extracurriculars, and maintaining a social life loomed ahead, but I knew that the challenges would lead to even more accomplishments and personal growth.

My summer after freshman year was undoubtedly one for the books. From interning at Deloitte and taking a Calculus 2 course to creating unforgettable memories with friends in the lively streets of Chicago, it was a summer filled with learning, laughter, and growth. As I prepare to embark on year 2 at USC, I’m grateful for the experiences that have shaped me, the people I’ve met, and the opportunities to come ahead.
