Coming to Los Angeles from a suburban Texas town, I had no idea what to expect in an academic or social environment. My idea of fun was relegated to the local Target parking lot or trips to the Sonic drive-in. I never expected to live somewhere where I would buy concert tickets the night of, somewhere my hometown friends love to visit, or where a typical weekday feels like I’m living the dream. My first semester at USC was filled with the perfect mix of adventures, late-night study sessions, and linear algebra lectures.
BeReal is a “real” social media app that has allowed me to stay in touch with my friends back home, connect with new friends at USC, and recap my entire semester. I made it a goal of mine to take at least one BeReal a day so I could never forget my time at USC. I hope this little log of my adventures inspires you to envision all the opportunities that USC and Southern California offer.
As a huge music lover, both as an instrumentalist and a listener, there is no better city to live in than Los Angeles. Not only does LA offer concerts every single night, but the USC Concerts Committee hosts concerts on campus multiple times throughout the year! Past years have included Denzel Curry, Dominic Fike, and Toro y Moi!
Between all the concerts I attended around LA, I was sure to get some quality study time. Luckily, USC is full of many study spots. Here are some of my favorites from BeReal!
On the left side, we have a Leavey cubicle; in the middle, we have the beautiful Hoose Library of Philosophy; on the right side, we have an empty classroom at night.
Although the Leavey Library individual study areas are great, I recommend taking advantage of the group study rooms pictured on the right below. They were a favorite of me and my friends during finals season. If you’re interested in venturing off campus, a short (free) bus ride will take you straight into K-town to my favorite coffee shop, About Time (as pictured on the left and middle below).
Speaking of K-town, living in the middle of Los Angeles has allowed me to try some of the best food I’ve ever had. In K-town, I’ve had hot pot with friends (left below) and tried Korean fried chicken for the first time (right below).
I now leave you with some other random moments around USC and LA. I spent hours in lectures, but I also spent hours in the Student Symphony Orchestra (which anyone can join, by the way); I went ice skating at Crypto.com arena, I caught a USC football game, I took a trip down to San Diego; I took advantages of many of the opportunities that being a student at USC in LA offers. These images are taken in real time with no filter. This is my beautiful USC life.
