I’m from St. Louis (STL), Missouri, so I’m incredibly excited to spend my summer back home! This is likely my last summer there as well, so one of my primary objectives for the upcoming three months is to spend as much time with my family and friends as possible. In addition to that, though, I’ve got some other plans…
SUMMER CLASS
I’ll be taking Calculus III over the summer online at a university in Missouri. I’m happy to be keeping my math skills sharp over the summer while also gaining some credits.
NASA L’SPACE
NASA’s career development program, called L’SPACE, has two Academies: the Mission Concept Academy and the NASA Proposal Writing and Evaluation Experience Academy. I’ll be applying for the Mission Concept Academy. If I am accepted, I will work virtually with subject matter experts, collaborate with a diverse team of individuals, learn the principles of NASA mission design, and gain valuable technical skills that will help me both in and out of the classroom.
STUDY ABROAD
The last two weeks of my summer will be spent in Berlin, Germany, where I’ll be participating in an Engineering in Society Fall Lead class. Similar to how most other Fall Lead trips work, the first portion of the class is spent abroad in Berlin, learning about German sustainability and engineering communication through hands-on activities throughout the city. Then, when school starts again in fall 2025, I’ll take the class once a week to continue learning about these topics and apply aspects of my Berlin experience to in-class assignments and projects.
PROJECTS
In addition to these more academically-oriented enterprises, I’ll be pursuing personal projects, simply to learn some new skills and have fun. I’m hoping to design and build my own cornhole boards, birdhouse, and possibly a Little Free Library, which will give me a taste of the all-around engineering process and how each stage works.
MISCELLANEOUS PERSONAL ENDEAVORS
Finally, there’s always other things to be doing. I’m excited to continue exercising, play sports, go for bike rides, build LEGOs, hit Six Flags, and, as I said above, spend a ton of time with my family and friends.
That wraps up my summer plans! I’m looking forward to a perfect mix of relaxation and continued learning.
