Hi guys!
I hope everyone is having a splendid year. It is officially spooky season, so I am very excited for all of the upcoming fall festivities such as pumpkin patches, Halloween, and all the cozy things that come with this time of year. 🎃
This past summer, I had the incredible opportunity to intern with Kimley-Horn as a Civil Engineering intern on their Development Services team in Santa Clarita, CA. It was an enriching experience that helped me grow both technically and professionally while working alongside some of the most talented engineers I have ever met.
Throughout the summer, I worked on a variety of civil and land development projects. Each week brought something new. Some days I refined plan sets in AutoCAD, while other days I assisted with preparing engineering exhibits or technical reports. I also visited project sites across Southern California, where I learned how design decisions translate into real-world impacts. These visits deepened my understanding of grading, drainage, and erosion control and reminded me why I am so passionate about this field.
Beyond the technical side, one of the most valuable lessons I learned was the importance of communication and collaboration. Working with multiple project managers taught me how to balance priorities and stay organized, especially when transitioning between different types of work. I also discovered how essential it is to ask questions early, which helped me strengthen my problem-solving skills and confidence.
Outside of work, I connected with other interns during company-wide events and visited Kimley-Horn’s offices in Orange and Downtown Los Angeles. These experiences gave me a better understanding of how teams collaborate across regions and disciplines.
When I was not working, I made sure to spend time outdoors, including a trip to Yosemite National Park for the first time. The views were absolutely breathtaking, and it was the perfect way to recharge after a busy and fulfilling summer.

Overall, this internship solidified my passion for civil and environmental engineering. I am incredibly grateful for the mentorship, friendships, and hands-on experience that helped me grow into a more confident and capable engineer.
Here is to continuing that growth this fall, both in the classroom and beyond! 🍂
